Wax Iron Features
Many irons look alike, and all give out heat. Still, there are many differences between household irons and specific ski wax irons. Ski wax irons generally have a thicker heat plate, more heating elements, and a more precise thermostat.
Household irons don't retain heat well and quickly cool when in contact with a room temperature ski base. They eventually heat up again but will continue to have heat pulled out of them until the ski base sufficiently warms. The temptation is to turn up the heat to offset this issue. This can lead to wide temperature fluctuations that have the danger of burning your base and is super inefficient.
Ski wax irons are designed to retain heat in a more precise temperature range, allowing for safe and efficient hot wax application.
