FIS Race Ski Sizing Guidelines

FIS regulations change frequently, so it is best to consult with your coach or local ski expert before making a final purchase. Please see the current FIS Specifications for Competition Equipment and USSA/FIS Equipment Rules for specific age and circuit rules.

NON-FIS Race Ski Sizing Guidelines

There are varying opinions on how to best size skis, but the most accurate method to size race skis is based on the athlete's weight. The chart below recommends what size should work best for young athletes using one pair of skis for both events and athletes using Slalom (SL) and Giant Slalom (GS) specific skis. If an older athlete is using one pair for both events, it is best to choose an SL ski that is one size longer than the ideal SL length. A long SL ski will still work for SL and be very serviceable for GS. These are loose guidelines, and you should consult your local coach or ski expert for more specific recommendations.

Sizing Considerations:

  1. Consult FIS, USSA, and other level appropriate regulations.

Click here for 2025-2026 FIS SPECIFICATIONS FOR ALPINE COMPETITION EQUIPMENT
  2. Racer's ability level and preference - more advanced skiers can generally handle longer length skis, which can be more stable at higher speeds.
  3. Growth of the athlete - you may want to consider sizing up a little if you want to get multiple years out of a younger racer's skis, although most coaches agree that skiing on a slightly shorter ski the second year is preferable to skiing on a ski that is too long.
  4. Coach's recommendations.

Description & Features

2027 Rossignol HERO Master LT GS skis are built for expert skiers who want World Cup-inspired construction with a more accessible long-turn sidecut than a FIS GS ski. Designed by Rossignol’s race engineers, the Master LT delivers powerful edge grip, smooth stability, and precise carving for fast, high-energy turns on hard snow.

Line Control Technology (LCT) helps eliminate counter-flexing so the ski stays connected to the snow through the full arc of the turn. Combined with a Beech PEFC wood core, Full Titanal Layer, and Rectangular Full Sidewall construction, the HERO Master LT offers the damp, precise feel advanced skiers want for early-morning corduroy and race-inspired frontside skiing.

Key Features

  • Masters GS ski for expert on-piste skiers
  • Line Control Technology (LCT) for stability and dynamic line control
  • Cascade Tip for smoother turn initiation and better tip control
  • Beech PEFC Wood Core for dampness, stability, and powerful snow feel
  • Full Titanal Layer for maximum energy and edge hold
  • Rectangular Full Sidewall for precision, balance, and power transmission
  • Oversized Sidecut for strong carving precision and control
  • Full Camber profile for maximum rebound and edge grip
  • Sintered UHD race base for speed and durability
  • R22 Plate for direct power transmission

Construction & Technology

Line Control Technology (LCT)

Line Control Technology integrates a central vertical power rail within the wood core to eliminate counter-flexing. This design maintains stable snow contact, improves line control, and preserves the ski’s natural energy through the turn.

Cascade Tip

Cascade Tip uses staggered layers in the tip to reduce swing weight and manage torsional flex. The result is smoother turn initiation, better precision, and more effective edge grip.

Beech PEFC Wood Core

The Beech PEFC wood core provides excellent dampness and stability while using certified materials that help reduce environmental impact across the product life cycle.

Full Titanal Layer

The Full Titanal Layer restores maximum energy and power in aggressive turns, firm conditions, and high-speed skiing. It adds torsional rigidity and a strong, calm feel under pressure.

Rectangular Full Sidewall

Rectangular Full Sidewall construction combines layered core materials with full-length vertical sidewalls to maximize edge grip, precision, balance, and power transmission.

Sintered UHD Base

The Sintered UHD base is built for maximum glide and durability, helping the ski maintain speed on firm race-prepped snow.

Full Camber

Full camber delivers powerful rebound, precise edge contact, and strong energy return for high-performance carving.

Oversized Sidecut

The Oversized Sidecut blends deep carving geometry with a modern waist width to increase stability, control, and carving precision in longer-radius turns.
