FIS Race Ski Sizing Guidelines

FIS regulations change frequently, so it is best to consult with your coach or local ski expert before making a final purchase. Please see the current FIS Specifications for Competition Equipment and USSA/FIS Equipment Rules for specific age and circuit rules.

NON-FIS Race Ski Sizing Guidelines

There are varying opinions on how to best size skis, but the most accurate method to size race skis is based on the athlete's weight. The chart below recommends what size should work best for young athletes using one pair of skis for both events and athletes using Slalom (SL) and Giant Slalom (GS) specific skis. If an older athlete is using one pair for both events, it is best to choose an SL ski that is one size longer than the ideal SL length. A long SL ski will still work for SL and be very serviceable for GS. These are loose guidelines, and you should consult your local coach or ski expert for more specific recommendations.

Sizing Considerations:

  1. Consult FIS, USSA, and other level appropriate regulations.

Click here for 2025-2026 FIS SPECIFICATIONS FOR ALPINE COMPETITION EQUIPMENT
  2. Racer's ability level and preference - more advanced skiers can generally handle longer length skis, which can be more stable at higher speeds.
  3. Growth of the athlete - you may want to consider sizing up a little if you want to get multiple years out of a younger racer's skis, although most coaches agree that skiing on a slightly shorter ski the second year is preferable to skiing on a ski that is too long.
  4. Coach's recommendations.

Description & Features

The Atomic Redster G9 Revoshock S GS ski is a Masters GS ski built for powerful carving, smooth stability, and confidence at speed. It brings World Cup-inspired technology into a versatile platform designed for high-level recreational and Masters racers.

Revoshock S reduces vibration before it reaches your feet, helping the ski stay smooth and predictable through ruts and changing snow. It also redirects energy into acceleration, giving you a stronger, more consistent turn exit.

Carbon Boost adds stiffness underfoot for increased rebound, while Power Woodcore and TI Powered construction create a stable, responsive feel. Ultrawall construction improves edge grip and durability, and the integrated binding system allows the ski to flex naturally while maintaining strong power transfer.

Construction & Technology

Revoshock S

Spring steel modules within an elastomer system absorb impacts and reduce ski chatter. This creates a smoother ride and helps generate more acceleration out of each turn.

Carbon Boost

Carbon inserts underfoot add stiffness where it matters most. This increases rebound and helps drive powerful GS turns.

Ultrawall

A hybrid sidewall construction that combines cap durability with sidewall precision. It improves edge grip while resisting dents and damage.

Power Woodcore

A blend of ash and poplar creates a stable and responsive platform. It keeps the ski smooth at speed while maintaining agility.

TI Powered

Titanium reinforcement increases torsional rigidity and damping. This improves stability and edge hold in high-speed GS conditions.

Active Camber

Full camber profile keeps more edge in contact with the snow. This increases grip and stability on hard and icy surfaces.

Binding

The Atomic I 12 GW ski binding brings Atomic racing DNA to the piste with Full Flex binding plate technology. A free-gliding plate fixed at the heel allows the ski to bend naturally beneath your boots, helping maintain full-length edge contact and stronger grip through each turn.

Toe and heel mounts adjust easily without tools, making sole length changes simple. Now part of the ICON binding family, the I 12 GW delivers the precision and control of race technology in a versatile, high-performance system for on-piste skiing.
