The material used in this one-of-a-kind body protection line constitutes a dramatic shift over traditional products. The SLYTECH 2ND SKiN XT shock absorbing system is more durable, more flexible (especially at lower temperatures), and protects you a full 80% better over traditional hard protectors and 20% better over traditional soft protectors. And it does all that with a dramatic increase in comfort. In our lab and filed test, our magic EVA based copolymer exhibited much higher stability, toughness and durability at low temperatures, and more resistance to UV radiation than any competing protector, including traditional Polyurethane foam based soft protectors. The extraordinary properties of the extra tough copolymer are due to its polygonal closed cell structure that provides improved shock absorption and water proofing. Wear it, abuse it and then throw it in the wash. No problem.

Upon impact, the polygonal-cell-foam compound performs as a progressive shock absorber that intelligently adapts to the different forces, impacts, and speeds of a crash. The shock absorption increases proportionally to the strength of the impact, so your body is protected completely at any impact level. When pressure is slowly applied, the membranes walls of the polygonal cells slide against each other through their contact planes and allow the cells to deform malleably. In contrast, when quick sharp pressure is applied, the force of the contact makes the membranes of the microstructure form a progressively stiffening and vibrating grid and the protector becomes rigid and deflects the blow. The shock absorbing element is designed to withstand multiple impacts, whether they are in quick succession on a slam or over the lifetime of the product. By returning to its original shape after impact, the protector is able to once again effectively able to absorb new shocks.
FIS Back Protector Regulation for Alpine Racing
The back protector must adapt to the anatomical bend of the athlete's spine and lie flat against the body. The top edge of the back protector must be situated in the area of the spinal column and may not go above the 7th cervical vertebrae (C7). Fastening of the back protector may only take place with a stomach belt. The maximum thickness must be in the middle part and may not exceed 45 mm; the thickness reduces at the edges of the back protector. Designs with the view to improve aerodynamic properties are forbidden. The back protector must be worn underneath the competition suit.
