POC came on the race scene with a Gold Medal in the 2006 Winter Olympics and they have made a dedicated effort with research to determine how best to protect an athletes brain. The result is a tremendous increase in the shock absorbing quality of the liner and a shell that will flex under impact. Analysis also determined that helmets wear out over time from multiple gate hits and lose shock absorbing ability. Therefore, for helmets to be effective they must be replaced with some frequency the same as one replaces skis, boots, gloves, etc.
